Clark Trombley Randers

About Us

"Our services aren't unique; many firms do what we do. The difference, then, is us. We don't chase projects—we build relationships and we try to instill that feeling in every member of our staff."

Dave Tratt | PE

We're proud of the work we do and we're proud of the people who do it!

Our History

As we approach our 60 year milestone here at CTR, we strive to continue the legacy of quality and customer service. We’ve enjoyed the client relationships established by Elgin and Bill, and have added many new ones as we look forward to the next 60 years!

1961

Elgin L. Clark Consulting Engineers

Elgin Clark and Bill Trombley recognized a need in the Lansing area for mechanical and electrical consulting engineering services. They founded Elgin L. Clark Consulting Engineers and worked from an upstairs office on Washington Ave. downtown.
1961

Clark Trombley Associates

Soon after, the firm became known as Clark Trombley Associates. They worked closely with local architects such as Bernie Mayotte, Bob Freeman, Bob Smith, Bruce Hartwig, and Barbara Munson, as well as clients like General Motors, Michigan State University, and Sparrow and Lansing General (now McLaren) Hospitals. Some of the more notable buildings they designed are the Accident Fund Building, Auto-Owners Moulton Building, and MSU Indoor Tennis Center.

A Big Move to West Lansing

An expanding staff and client base made the move to the west side of Lansing necessary in the late 1970’s.

Leadership

Our business philosophy has been to develop close working relationships with our clients. We recognize that MEP services can become a commodity—and we strive for differentiation by being "good folks" to work with. And that starts with the firm's principals.

Robin Hyman, PE

Principal
Robin was born in Texas and graduated from UTA. He received his Professional Engineering license there and, after some time in Michigan, contributed to projects including hospitals in Texas and working for the military on electrical grids in Afghanistan.

CTR was looking to hire someone with his experience in 2013, and Robin was fit for the job. He returned to Michigan, where he lives with his wife of 20 years and three kids. Robin contributed greatly to the growth and continued success of CTR. Robin takes pride in service to the clients and our team’s responsiveness and ability to problem solve.

Jacob Sabins, PE, LEED AP

Principal
Jacob Sabins has always loved science and math growing up. It was only a matter of time before his dad encouraged him to look for a career in engineering. He had lived in Lansing his entire life, graduating from Michigan State University in 2004 (Go Green!) and working in the Lansing area for over 17 years. He now shares a home in Holt with his wife and two daughters, spending his weekends swimming, coaching soccer, and playing card games with family and friends.

CTR invited Jacob to join the firm in 2014 with an opportunity to become part of CTR’s leadership while also providing design services on several large projects. What drew him to this company was the team of experienced professionals and CTR’s reputation among their clients as a provider of choice for engineering services. Because of Jacob and the employees at CTR, the team of engineers and designers have developed a wide range of experience across many building types and work every day to establish trusting and positive relationships with our clients.

Scott Floyd, PE

Principal
Solving problems and building things is how Scott learned to have fun. His family was in the building consulting and sales side of the industry. When it came time to make his mark in life, designing buildings seemed like a natural fit. Scott was motivated by the challenge to be more and do more as a person, and this goal propelled him to the next level of his professional career with CTR.

At CTR, a great team of people is always there to support new projects, and as an engineer, he loved the ability to develop the custom solutions for each client. No client has the same idea of what their ideal building structure is. Helping them find a design solution that works is a true passion of his. His transition from engineer to Principal and partner has brought to light his sometimes hidden, extrovert side. This new self helps him make long-term friendships that go above and beyond the typical client and consultant relationship. When he’s not at work, Scott spends time with his wife and four kids. They are true West Michigan natives and enjoy spending their time together hiking in the woods, swimming, and being in nature.
